Déjà Vu
Déjà Vu is a café and bar on Düstere Straße in Göttingen. I build and run the whole site: the public side with events, the drinks menu and photos, and a login-only area where staff manage events and sign-ups themselves.
The brief
The bar wanted a proper website, but did not want to rent five different SaaS tools by the month or feed visitor data to trackers just to post an event.
What I built
- Built on site
- Every time I worked on the site, I sat in Déjà Vu. That is why it fits the bar and not a template.
- Public side
- Events, drinks menu, photo gallery, a blog and a notice board for announcements and lost property.
- Back office
- Staff add events and manage sign-ups themselves.
- Regulars and stamp card
- Small apps for regulars. Only these use a login cookie; the rest of the site sets none.
- Mini-games
- Drinking games, Beat Sync and a 2000s Rap Mode, with a leaderboard.
- Hosting
- Python backend with SQLite, installable as a PWA, on my own hardware behind Caddy. None of it phones home.
Today
The bar runs on it day to day and pays nobody a monthly seat fee. I keep adding to it; it is one of my biggest projects.
